Shrimadbhagwat Mahapurana- A Brief Introduction

Amongst the 18 Purana composed by Ved Vyas, Shrimadbhagwat holds utmost importance as the holiest Purana. In this scripture the various stories of Krishna Leela have been narrated in the most beautiful manner. The scripture has stories of Lord Krishna in his supernatural and divine form. Apart from the tales, there are accounts of the devotees of Krishna and their stories of attaining salvation.

In this Mahapurana, there are 18 thousand verses, 12 wings and 335 chapters. Shrimadbhagwat recital and the Yagya take about 7days to complete. There are 12 wings in this scripture in which the incarnated forms of Vishnu are described. In Naimisharanya pilgrimage, the son of Lomharshan, Ugrashava Sutji narrated about 24 incarnation of Lord Krishna on the request of the Shaunkaidi Sages.

Shrimadbhagwat has also been called the Kalp Tree as by merely listening to it one gets rewarded. By hearing the recital of Shrimadbhagwat cleanses even the sinful heart. श्रीमद्भागवत महापुराण संक्षिप्त परिचय

महर्षि वेद व्यास द्वारा रचित 18 पुराणों में श्रीमद्भागवत सबसे श्रेष्ठ एवं पवित्र पुराण है । यह पुराण समस्त पुराणों का सार है । इस महापुराण में भगवान श्रीकृष्ण (विष्णु अवतार) की अनेक लीलाओं और कथाओं का सुंदर वर्णन विस्तार से किया गया है । 'श्रीमद्भागवत पुराण' में भगवान श्रीकृष्ण के ईश्वरीय और अलौकिक रूप का दिव्य वर्णन किया गया है। कथाओं के अलावा इस महापुराण में भगवान के भक्तों और उनकी मुक्ति की कथाओं का भी विस्तार से वर्णन किया गया है ।

इस पुराण में बारह स्कन्ध हैं, जिनमें विष्णु के अवतारों का ही वर्णन है। नैमिषारण्य में शौनकादि ऋषियों की प्रार्थना पर लोमहर्षण के पुत्र उग्रश्रवा सूत जी ने इस पुराण के माध्यम से श्रीकृष्ण के चौबीस अवतारों की कथा कही है।

श्रीमद्भागवत को कल्प वृक्ष माना गया है जिसके श्रवण मात्र से सभी प्रकार के फल प्राप्त होते हैं । भागवत कथा श्रवण से मन का शुद्धिकरण होता है। इससे संशय दूर होता है और शांति व मुक्ति मिलती है। श्रीमद भागवत कथा श्रवण से जन्म जन्मांतर के विकार नष्ट होकर प्राणी मात्र का लौकिक व आध्यात्मिक विकास होता है। जहां अन्य युगों में धर्म लाभ एवं मोक्ष प्राप्ति के लिए कड़े प्रयास करने पड़ते हैं, कलियुग में कथा सुनने मात्र से व्यक्ति भवसागर से पार हो जाता है। सोया हुआ ज्ञान वैराग्य कथा श्रवण से जाग्रत हो जाता है। कथा कल्पवृक्ष के समान है, जिससे सभी इच्छाओं की पूर्ति की जा सकती है।
